Application Process:

The application process takes place in the spring for matriculation in September of the same year. Applicants will be notified via email that their application packet was received and if it was completed as required. Applications are due by Friday, April 3, 2019. Please send completed application package to CST.training@hitchcock.org.

The application process includes:

  • 1.

    Participation in the March 28 Information Session (register here).

  • 2.

    Application package:

    • Non-refundable application fee of $20.00 (cash or check can be made out to Dartmouth-Hitchcock Department of Perioperative Services)
    • Current resume or Curriculum Vitae
    • Statement of Interest (minimum of 500 words)
    • Two Letters of reference (at least one must be professional, current or previous manager is strongly encouraged)
    • Official College transcripts
  • 3.

    Participation in a structured interview process

  • 4.

    Pre-Requisites:

    • Proof of Age: applicants must be 18 years or older on or before start date of class year
    • High school diploma: HiSET or GED (Graduate Equivalence)
    • College-level Anatomy & Physiology I with a passing grade of C or higher (taken within the last five years)
    • College-level Medical Terminology with a passing grade of C or higher (taken within the last five years)
    • Current/valid Basic Life Support certification

D-H Employees applying for sponsorship must also submit:

  • A sponsorship application essay that demonstrates to the Department of Perioperative Services how you have earned sponsorship through your performance and contributions to Dartmouth-Hitchcock
  • One of your professional references must be from your current D-H manager/supervisor

The Surgical Technology Program Selection Committee will make decisions to admit up-to 10 individuals per year. This is a competitive application process and completion of all admission requirements does not guarantee acceptance. If selected, it is the applicant’s responsibility to acknowledge acceptance to confirm the spot.

Sponsorship Information for D-H Employees:

Current D-H employees who are in good standing and who have been in their role for at least one year are eligible to apply for sponsorship from the Department of Perioperative Services. This may include tuition support and/or a training wage while participating in the program. Some additional steps are involved in the application process if you are applying for sponsorship. For more information, please contact cst.training@hitchcock.org.

Not a Current D-H Employee but Interested in Sponsorship?

If you are not currently a D-H employee but are interested in pursuing this career field and would like to be eligible for sponsorship in the future, please reach out to us about current employment opportunities in the Department of Perioperative Services that could lead to sponsorship eligibility.

Additional Pre-Admission Requirements:

Prior to matriculation, students who have been accepted to the Surgical Technology Program must complete some additional steps, including:

  • Successful fulfillment of pre-requisites

  • Proof of Health Insurance
  • 6 hours of shadowing at the Dartmouth-Hitchcock Main Operating Rooms
  • Completed D-H Pre-Employment/Person of Interest screening, which includes a criminal background check and clearance by Occupational Medicine for physical fitness for duty and required immunizations.
  • Attend Program Enrollment session

College Pre-Requisites:

  • Anatomy & Physiology I (with a passing grade of C or higher)
  • College-level Medical Terminology (with a passing grade of C or higher)
