Requesting an Observation/Job Shadowing Experience
Requirements:
Submitting a request:
Observers must identify the department of interest and arrange the shadow opportunity directly with a Dartmouth Health staff member prior to submitting a request. It is the responsibility of the requester to secure a host. When we receive your request we will confirm with the DH department that they are able to host your observation experience. While many departments welcome observers, there are some departments that are not able to accommodate due to highly sensitive patient needs.
Once your request has been confirmed, we will send you an e-mail with links to the following onboarding requirements:
- DH Experiential Learning Shadows and Co-Ops Policy
- DH Confidentiality Agreement
You will need to review and sign all documents. Signed documents should be submitted prior to your observation experience by e-mailing studentexperiences@hitchcock.org.
Requesting a Practicum Placement
Requirements:
Submitting a request:
A student affiliation agreement must be in place between your school and D-H. If an agreement is not already in place we can work with your school/program contact to establish one. When we receive your request, we will confirm with the D-H department that they are able to host your practicum experience.
Once your request has been confirmed, we will send you an e-mail with information and links to the following onboarding requirements:
- Occupational Medicine and Drug Screening Requirements
- Confidentiality / HIPAA Policy Sign-Off
- Substance Use Policy Sign-Off
- Disruptive Behavior Policy Sign-Off
- Should I Work Today Flyer
- Felony Attestation
Your school will also need to submit a valid certificate of liability insurance and the results of a Bureau of Elderly & Adult Services (BEAS) check. If you have not completed a National Criminal Background Check through your school, you will need to initiate a check and submit the results to DH prior to your start date. Once all documentation has been received, you will be scheduled to start your experience.
